SCNetwork Toronto Region Newsletter

Recognition, according to Canadian Metrics@Work, is the lowest of 25 commonly ranked drivers of employee engagement. It came to this conclusion after analyzing a quarter of a million staff engagement surveys.

As HR professionals, we find ourselves confronted with dynamic issues everyday that get labelled as "problems", leading to endless finger pointing and blame-gaming over matters that are beyond our control.

To cultivate a high-performance culture, it’s time to shift our leadership focus towards solution-based approaches that recognize creativity, adaptability, resourcefulness, commitment, and productivity.

How do you retain your top talent? How can we, as leaders, leverage collaboration to recognize the extraordinary within the ordinary in our workforce, on a day-to-day basis? What is the FROG Effect? How can we show-up and pay attention to what employees are really saying? And is performance management on a deathwatch?

To provide answers to these (and other) burning questions, SCNetwork is presenting speakers who will share practical tools and strategies that have helped them develop clear intention, and empowering accountability practices to ace employee recognition.

The National Club
7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Our speaker for this event, Sarah McVanel is the author of Forever Recognize Others’ Greatness: Solution Focused Strategies for Satisfied Staff, High Performing Teams and Healthy Bottom Lines (2015) and The FROG Effect: Tools and Strategies to Forever Recognize Others’ Greatness (2016). Sarah personifies Greatness Magnified - a boutique consulting firm through which she offers practical strategies and insights to change our HR gears from being dysfunctional to cooperative, divided to united, inefficient to productive, and disengaged to contributor. The key is collaboration. Join us to find out how greater accountability leads to lasting results.

The Albany Club
7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Performance management has earned a mixed reputation over the past few years. What does the future of performance management hold for organizations, leaders, and employees? Can it be refreshed to fit the current economic and business environment? How can performance management be a win-win for employees and management?

Our speakers, Ilana Hechter, Partner at Mercer Consulting, and Jodi Carradice, CHRO at Wawanessa will provide an overview of the current state of performance management, examine the headlines (and bottom-lines) of recent market practices, and discuss the four (4) key performance management activities Mercer has identified through their global research. With the help of a case study, they will present how performance management can be redesigned, by outlining their experience in re-thinking their performance management process, the impetus for change, and some of the challenges they faced in creating a new global program.

At our last event, we learned from William Schiemann that fulfillment is highest when a) individual and company vision, values and goals are aligned, b) organizational capabilities are aligned with individual life goals, and c) through high engagement people are empowered to bring passion and creativity to work.
