SCNetwork Toronto Region Newsletter

Project Aristotle is a Google initiative that studied 180 teams internally to decodify the secrets of team effectiveness. In a recent article, they presented their findings in a nutshell by identifying the top five traits of successful and high-performing teams. They are, a) dependability, b) structure and clarity, c) meaning, d) impact, and c) psychological safety.

In creating high performing and engaged teams within an organization, the leadership role of managers cannot be overstated. Dr. Dalton Kehoe says, "productivity and profitability happen in units where employees are fully connected and managers have learned to "talk to the Elephant" in order to give them certainty about what is expected of them, and to show care for them as people."

And according to Atul Dighe, research leader at CEB (now Gartner), the highest performing teams thrive best in a culture of innovation. These organizational imperatives are keeping CEOs awake at night, so they can deal with another global imperative – the rise of robots and artificial intelligence (AI).

In alignment with such industrial demands, SCNetwork is presenting:

Dr. Dalton Kehoe, to demystify the language of elephant so we can care for our employees; Atul Dighe, to reveal the tools necessary for creating a culture of innovation that fuels growth, and; author Dr. Cindy Gordon along with speakers from Apple and IBM, who will help us understand the role of robots and AI in HR practices, so we can embrace the digital revolution, fully prepared.

SPEAK ELEPHANT FOR BETTER EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT: THE NEUROSCIENCE OF WORKPLACE LEADERSHIP
The National Club
7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

In Canada, we're doing a lousy job of engaging our employees in their work. Current estimates suggest that only 27% are actively and positively engaged. The problem, according to Dr. Dalton Kehoe, is that our study of engagement starts in the wrong place because we completely misunderstand the operations of the human mind. As managers, Kehoe says, if we use our 'elephant minds', we are in a better position to make stronger workplace connections, build trust, and release the power to create engaged employees.

Join us to hear from Dr. Dalton Kehoe himself, as he teaches us to speak elephant! Author of Mindful Management: The Neuroscience of Trust and Effective Workplace Leadership, organizational change practitioner, teacher, and communications consultant, Dr. Kehoe will provide detailed insights and examples of how speaking elephant has benefitted several leaders and companies who have adopted this technique.

10 lucky attendees will win Dr. Kehoe’s best-selling book,

CREATING AN INNOVATION CULTURE
The Albany Club
7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Creating a "culture of innovation" to drive rapid growth is topping many CEO priority lists. Customers expect it. Investors demand it. And our highest performing employees need it.

But what exactly is a "culture of innovation" and does having one truly impact an organization's ability to win in the marketplace? CEB, now Gartner’s Research and Development Leadership Council has set off to answer these questions.

Our speaker, Atul Dighe, research leader with CEB, now Gartner, will unveil the results of his team's latest study, presenting the drivers of creating an effective culture of innovation and most impactful steps senior leaders can take to develop a culture of innovation to fuel growth. Atul is the co-author of the best-selling book Exploring the Future and is often quoted for his views on strategy, innovation, scenario planning, emerging business opportunities, and acquisitions in publications such as The New York Times, USA Today, and Money Magazine.

THE ROBOTS ARE COMING: HOW AI WILL CHANGE WORK
The Albany Club
7:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

For centuries people have worried about technology disrupting work. On the cusp of what the World Economic Forum calls the Fourth Industrial Revolution as digital, mobile and artificial intelligence technologies evolve at a dizzying pace, fear that humans will be replaced is increasing.

But, are our fears warranted? Even as robots learn an increasing number of tasks, demand for talent is outpacing supply in many areas. Jobs that exist today will be transformed, while jobs that don’t yet exist will occupy the next generation of workers.

Join us to learn how technologies we already use in our everyday lives are changing the way we work. We’ll see what’s in store for the delivery of HR services. At the same time, we’ll explore how HR needs to reinvent itself to support organizations and workforces as we adapt to the future of work.

Dr. Cindy Gordon, author & CEO at SalesChoice, speakers from Apple, MobileFirst for iOS Apps, and Puvi Sinnathamby, Canadian Mobile Leader at IBM Interactive Experience, will look at:

  • the impact of new technologies on people and organizations;
  • how Apple & IBM are redefining work using digital, mobile and AI technologies; and
  • what it all means for the HR function and HR practitioners.
