SCNetwork Toronto Region Newsletter

As part of my Listening Tour last year, I heard from several SCNetwork members. I sought to learn from them through:

  • an organization-wide online membership survey;
  • three focus groups which were a mix of HR professionals & consultants, geographies, and short & long-tenured members;
  • eight phone interviews with our corporate subscriber members; and
  • personal meetings with CHRO group facilitators, and over 25 other members who reached out.

What I heard from them was a confirmation that SCNetwork continues to provide tremendous value for money and time, and an excellent community of peers and thought-leadership.

I also heard constructive feedback to further clarify some of our other offerings. To evolve and enhance SCNetwork's value proposition incrementally, I am excited to announce the first of our upcoming changes for 2018 that will improve the SCNetwork experience for current and prospective members.

We are ready to roll out our new fee schedule, effective immediately!

If you:

  • Join or renew December-May, you pay $225.00 + HST
  • Join or renew June-November, you pay $113.00 + HST

What's new? Members who join or renew mid-year will pay only half the price, as they don't receive the advantage of programming for the entire year.

For non-members who decide to attend more than two SCNetwork events (which I'm certain you will), it makes economical sense for you to become a member, than pay $75 non-member fee for every event. Our plan is to eventually move towards a pro-rated fee structure.

Scroll down to join or renew with our new fee structure today!

Stay tuned for more exciting announcements to come...*hint*...we're upgrading our membership offerings by expanding the scope of peer forum groups AND adding more value for our corporate subscribers! Watch this space for more!

In the mean time, join us at our March event, where renowned public speaker, author, and leadership expert Chester Elton will share research findings from a 850,000-person study and 50,000 motivation assessments, outlining the most effective ways today's leaders manage their teams. In his recent book, The Best Team Wins, Elton, and co-author Adrian Gostick talk about "job sculpting" - the idea is to let your employees do more of what they like and help them explore where their strengths lie. It's a simple fix, and yet so hard to do!

In this video, made especially for SCNetworkers, Chester Elton links the themes of his earlier books on work place trends to research from his latest book, The Best Team Wins.

Dubbed the "Apostle of Appreciation" by Canada's Globe and Mail, Chester Elton has also co-authored numerous bestselling leadership books such as All In, What Motivates Me, The Carrot Principle.

How do the best organizations create a culture of high performance and winning for employees and customers?

Join us for this special event, where Chester reveals:

  • Practical ways to address the real challenges today's team managers are facing, such as the rise of Millennials, an increasing speed of change, a growing number of global and virtual teams, and friction created by working cross-functionally.
  • Ways to promote healthy discord and spark innovation on a team; and techniques to unify customer focus and build bridges across functions, cultures, and distance.

The global Consortium to Reimagine HR, Employment Alternatives, Talent and the Enterprise (CHREATE) is a collaboration of HR leaders who have devoted hundreds of hours (on a voluntary basis) to map how HR must evolve to meet future challenges, to identify pivotal initiatives, to accelerate that evolution, and to design the actions needed to make the future a reality. Spearheaded by John Boudreau and Ian Ziskin, it includes over 30 CHROs and other HR professionals, from Starbucks, eBay, McDonald's, Walt Disney and many others.

Join us at this session to hear from managing directors of Root - Maria Forbes, Don MacLean and Carl Wagner, who are partnering with CHREATE to develop tools to help shape the future of HR.

Together they will be leading an interactive workshop, utilizing Root's methodology to help build an HR roadmap that will support your business effectively.

You will:

  • Uncover the Five Forces of Change, identified by thought leaders, futurists and executives inside and outside of HR
  • Learn about tools & techniques that will help leaders these key concepts to life in their organizations and among key influencers

This is not just another diversity presentation!

Human Resource professionals have long been tasked with managing issues of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I). In many organizations, the usual approach is a numbers game, based on identity diversity linked to hiring practices (the number of women in the C suite, the number of racial minorities we can see represented in the workforce, etc.) or changing customer demographics.

But in an economy driven by innovation, where do Diversity and inclusion fit and why are they important to your business?

At this session, Renée Bazile-Jones, Senior Director, Learning, Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion will:

  • Challenge the notion that D&I is all about the numbers;
  • Reframe the business case for D&I to talk to the ROI for developing an ecosystem for innovation;
  • Provide some practical, measurable measure you can take to apply this new paradigm in your organization; and
  • Energize your role as a D&I ally
